Description :
Tobacco pipe made of meerschaum with a cylindrical bowl without bowl rim, a lens-shaped underside with a central button shape and a rising stem widening to the end. Bowl front carved part of the coat of arms of Emperor French I of Austria consisting of a crowned oval shield crowned by the chain of the Golden Fleece (the lamb broken off) and held by standing crowned birds with wings spread. Shield filled in with a blue jasperware plaque on which a profile portrait of Frans I (II) turned to the left, mounted in a narrow silver frame. Bowl bottom wreath with oak leaves, stem along the underside leafwork. Original mounting with silver clamping lid in the shape of a large crown, silver stem cover with stem holder and locking ring. Bowl opening silver marks with year letter for 1824 and maker's initials "P?". |
