Pipes on the Moselle
10 July 2026
During a trip to the Eifel region, we visited the Mittelmosel Museum, located - as the name suggests - right on the banks of the Moselle River. To our surprise, the attic level housed a display case filled with locally excavated clay pipes. It featured countless familiar shapes alongside some unique local variations, including even some previously unknown Jonas pipes. These pieces were crafted by regional makers but were clearly inspired by Dutch examples. It just goes to show that, even after fifty years of researching pipes, there is always something new to discover.
