Gold pipes on a chain

Starting today, a dozen remarkable miniature pipes are on display in our central showcase. In the days when gentlemen still wore pocket watches, it was common to attach a so-called pendant to the chain, an object of one’s own choosing that held personal significance for the wearer. For avid pipe smokers, this might well be a tiny pipe. We are exhibiting a range of such pieces, carved from materials like mother-of-pearl, bone, ivory, or in silver. The most striking examples are two pipes made of gold; one even features a lid of platinum or white gold. These curious miniature items will be on display until October 25, 2026.
