Chic packaged pipe stopper

The eighteenth-century smoker with a love for the classical world would have liked to show himself with this pipe stopper. It is a true work of art carved from ivory and mounted on a silver stem ending in a pipe tamper. The main character is Emperor Julius Caesar dressed in a toga with a laurel wreath around his head. The uniqueness of the object is further emphasized by the mini-cassette in which the pipe stopper is stored. This cassette fits perfectly around the object and thus offers optimum protection for the fine carving. The exterior is covered with green-tinted ray skin or shagreen, the most exclusive type of leather imaginable; contrasting beautifully with the pink velvet of the interior. A silver nameplate is attached centrally to the box with two intertwined curled initials that refer to the good gift-giver or the proud owner of yesteryear. Furthermore, the case has silver hinges, a push button and two hooks along the edges. The Amsterdam Pipe Museum has an extensive collection of pipe stoppers from all eras, but this posh example takes the crown. It is the ultimate masterpiece within the niche of pipe stoppers!
